Location
Caslino d’Erba lies in the Triangolo Lariano area.
History
The name probably derives from “castellino”, referring to one of the castles that defended the Lambro valley. There was a signal tower from 1036 (demolished in the 20th century) and a castle of which traces remain near the sanctuary of San Calogero.
What to see
- Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Calogero: Romanesque, dating back to the year 1000, in an elevated position with panoramic views; it retains its original three-tier bell tower.
- Oratory of San Gregorio: Baroque, 18th century, with chapels of the Via Crucis.
- Cà Pecori: in the village centre, a Renaissance tower with a portico and rooms frescoed by Filippo Comerio.
What to do
Excursions toward the Bocchetta di Palanzo or the summit of Monte Palanzone (1,436 m, with views over both branches of the lake and the Alps) starting from the Alpe del Prina. Worth seeing are the caves, including the Boegia del Boldrin (three chambers, historically a shepherds’ shelter), and the course of the Piot stream, with the Bistonda and a 30-metre waterfall. There are three municipal parks: Tremolada, degli Alpini and Giovanni d’Anzi.
Getting there
Caslino d’Erba station is on the Trenord R16 line; bus lines C140 and C194 connect the village to Erba and to Ponte Lambro station. By car you arrive along the SP41.

Practical information
The village is also known for the production of Caslino d’Erba goat cheese (caprino).
