Location
Ponte Lambro is located in the Penisola Lariana, between the two branches of Lake Como, crossed by the Lambro river, not far from Lake Pusiano.
History
The village was born from the gradual union of the ancient nuclei of Ponte, Busnigallo, Fucina, Lezza and Mazzonio around the bridge over the Lambro river. Its origins date back to Roman times, evidenced by the archaeological site of Lo Schieppo, where remains of walls, thermal baths, granaries, tombs and coins have been found.
What to see
- Villa Guaita (1839), today the home of the Cotton Museum in the former Ponte Lambro Cotton Mill, testimony to the textile industry that marked the village’s history.
- The chapel on via Fiume, with a 19th-century fresco of Madonna in glory with the Child.
- Works of trompe l’oeil street art along via Fiume, enlivening the centre with painted views.
What to do
An excursion to Monte Puscio (Croce di Maiano, 1130 m) offers a view spanning the lakes of Pusiano, Annone and Alserio. Pleasant too are walks along the Lambro river, between the historic nucleus and the more modern quarters.
Getting there
Local bus lines connect Ponte Lambro to Erba and Canzo; by car follow the SP41 between Erba and Asso.
