Location
Trezzone is a small municipality of the Alto Lario overlooking the lake, at 430 metres above sea level, above Dongo and Gravedona.
History
Like many mountain villages in the area, most of the population emigrated to Palermo between the 16th and 19th centuries, bringing back on their return the cult of Saint Rosalia along with some precious objects still kept in the village today. The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, in an isolated spot just below the hamlet of Aurogna, dates back to the late 15th century.
What to see
- The historic centre, a well-preserved old core with stone houses, underpasses, stairways and cobbled lanes branching off from the ancient Via Regina, the historic road that once ran along the western shore of the lake.
- The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, built in the late 15th century, in an isolated and panoramic spot.
What to do
Panoramic paths climb towards the hamlets on the hillside, with views over the lake; the village lies a few kilometres from the Valle Albano and the hikes towards the Passo San Jorio.
Getting there
From Dongo you climb up with a short detour from the SS340 Regina, served by bus line C10 Como-Colico.
