The Church of the Ascension is the Anglican church of Cadenabbia, a hamlet of Griante, near the end of the Greenway. It is dedicated to the Ascension.
History
The building was designed by the architect Giuseppe Brentano. Work began in 1890 and the church was inaugurated on 4 November 1891. It was built for the English community that had settled at Griante at the end of the 19th century and is considered one of the first Anglican churches built in Italy.
Architecture
The style is Lombard neo-Gothic, inspired by 15th-century models. The church has a single nave marked by large transverse arches, a rose window on the façade and decorated corbels. It stands on the Via Regina state road, on the side towards the lake.
Along the Greenway
The church is at Cadenabbia, in the comune of Griante, shortly before the point where the Greenway del Lago di Como ends along the Via Regina. From Tremezzo, a little to the south, the boat leaves for the return; at Cadenabbia there is the car ferry to Bellagio and Varenna.
