Fronte Molo is the stretch of shore in the centre of Colonno, on the western shore of Lake Como, next to the village pier: a compact swimming spot woven into the fabric of the village, better suited to a short stop and a swim than to a day out with organised beach facilities.
Colonno lies between Argegno and Tremezzina, at the foot of Monte Costone. The village keeps a compact layout, with houses set against the lake and internal lanes that lead down to the shore on foot from the centre, with an open view over the western arm of Lake Como and the mountainsides on the opposite shore.
The beach
The name “Fronte Molo” is the one used for the bathing-water monitoring point: in the checks published for the 2025 season, the Colonno point was classified as excellent in the last sample reported. This describes the quality of the water sampled at that moment, not a permanent judgement — it does not replace any temporary ordinances or the signage on site.
Available tourist information describes the beach as a small, quiet sandy shore, reachable on foot from the church square. No permanent beach facility, sunbed rental service or lifeguard presence is documented for this specific spot: it is therefore prudent to treat it as an informal free beach, checking access conditions on site. The proximity of the pier means the area sees boat traffic, which calls for care when entering the water.

Colonno is one of the access points to the Greenway del Lago di Como, the footpath that crosses the villages of the western shore through Sala Comacina, Ossuccio and Lenno. From the centre you can see the Camoggia waterfall, the lakefront houses and the village’s historic layout: a visit to the beach fits well into a longer walk.
The location is also convenient for reaching Tremezzina, Isola Comacina and Lenno, where other swimming spots and places of interest can be found: for a day on the lake it is worth combining the swim with a walking itinerary, since the space right by the pier is limited.
Getting there
Colonno can be reached by car along the SS340 Regina state road; from the village you continue on foot towards the church and pier area, without a large car park directly on the beach. Bus connections along the Como–Alto Lago route are also worth considering — check up-to-date timetables. The coordinates given in this page mark the village and the pier area, not the cadastral boundary of the bathing water.
Access to the shore is free, but space availability, any ongoing works and bathing conditions can change: before entering the water it is worth checking municipal signage and updates from the health authority.
