In Italy’s smallest municipality, a diffuse museum of over thirty contemporary artworks spread among the village’s houses and paths.
MACA - the Open-Air Museum of Contemporary Art is located in the municipality of Morterone, at the foot of the Resegone.
History
The museum was born in the 1980s from the “Natura Naturans” philosophy of poet Carlo Invernizzi, who conceived of nature as a thinking subject. Over time the collection grew to more than thirty works by Italian and international artists, spread across the buildings of the village centre and its neighbouring hamlets. Among the works is the landscape project “Ricostruttivo” (2010-2012) by sculptor Nicola Carrino, in corten steel, made up of three 300x75x75 cm modules.
Visiting
The museum trail can be visited freely and free of charge, on foot, following the paths that cross the village centre and its surrounding hamlets: there are no tickets or fixed opening hours. The museum is part of the local Sistema Museale, which also includes the Casa dell’Arte.
