In the park of Villa Clotilde in Esino Lario, the Museo delle Grigne tells the nature, history and culture of the village and of the Grigne massif through a palaeontology section, an archaeology section and an ethno-anthropology section.
Founded in 1959, the museum has been housed at Villa Clotilde since 2016. It is a civic museum run by the Friends of the Museo delle Grigne (a non-profit association), part of the Ecomuseo delle Grigne and of the Lecco Province Museum System, and has been recognised by Regione Lombardia as a museum collection since 2022.
The sections
- Palaeontology: minerals and fossils from the area.
- Archaeology: Roman and Celtic finds.
- Ethno-anthropology: the main working activities and daily life of the people of Esino Lario up to the early decades of the twentieth century.
- A section on the Scuola di Arazzeria (tapestry school), active from the 1930s to the 1960s, and a room on Wikimania 2016, the worldwide Wikimedia gathering hosted in Esino Lario, added in 2018.
The museum’s website also mentions a second site in Piazza Pietro Pensa, with the reconstruction of a traditional “casello”.
