Mandello del Lario →

In Mandello del Lario, next to the factory where the eagle-badged motorcycles have been built since 1921, the Moto Guzzi Museum traces more than a century of the brand’s history with over 160 motorcycles. It was redone in 2026 and from October is open Thursday to Sunday.

The factory and the brand

Moto Guzzi was founded on 15 March 1921 in Genoa by Carlo Guzzi, Giorgio Parodi and Emanuele Vittorio Parodi, with production in Mandello del Lario, where the plant still stands today on via Parodi. The eagle that became its emblem was chosen in memory of Giovanni Ravelli, a motorcycle racer and aviator who was a friend of the founders, killed in 1919. The first production model was the “Normale”, built from 1921; the G.P. of 1919 had been its prototype.

The new museum

The museum was presented to the public during the Moto Guzzi World Days (GMG), from 3 to 6 September 2026, together with the new plant. M3 Motorcube reports more than 60,000 enthusiasts at the GMG and over 6,000 visitors to the new site in the following weeks. For the Comune di Mandello the museum occupies a 3,000-square-metre building next to the factory, that echoes in its forms and finishes the technical, metallic details of the motorcycles; the booking portal instead calls it «completely renovated», designed by the architect Greg Lynn. The sources disagree on what kind of work it was.

The collection counts more than 160 restored motorcycles, from the G.P., the unique prototype from which the brand’s story began, to today’s models. The Comune recalls the racing bikes that won 14 world titles; the sections are devoted, among other things, to cinema, competitions, travel, the arts, and military and police vehicles. From the rooms you can see the new assembly lines. The Wind Tunnel, a full-size tunnel built in 1950, has been restored. The complex also includes a Motoplex Store with Piaggio Group products and the Caffè Moto Guzzi.
