The Piani Resinelli mines, worked from the 16th century to the present day in the heart of the Grigne mountain group, can now be safely explored on guided tours through the old galleries.
The park sits at roughly 1,300 metres, at Piani Resinelli, a hamlet of the municipality of Abbadia Lariana.
History
The mines were worked from the 16th century until relatively recent times for underground mineral extraction beneath the Grigne. With extraction activity now over, the site is a mining museum park where the old galleries can be safely visited with a guide.
The galleries
Guided tours take in the Anna mine, with an entirely level route suitable for both children and adults — a small statue of Saint Barbara, patron saint of miners, stands at its entrance — and the Sottocavallo mine, laid out over seven levels connected by a central shaft, recommended for adults. A third gallery, the Silvia mine, houses a large hall used for concerts and events.
