Villa Greppi (Villa del Cedro)

Griante →

The name Villa del Cedro comes from a cedar of Lebanon that grows in the park of centuries-old trees around this eighteenth-century villa in Griante.

Villa Greppi, also called Villa del Cedro, is an eighteenth-century villa in Griante, on via Don Tommaso Grossi. The Lombardy Region’s record lists it as a privately owned residential building and gives the name Villa del Cedro as a historical name, taken from a 1983 local publication, Griante Cadenabbia ieri e oggi.

According to the same regional record, the villa belonged to don Camillo Tanzi, then to don Alessandro Greppi and afterwards to Count Emanuele Greppi and Countess Bice di Belgioioso Greppi. It then passed to the Solaro Benaglio family and finally to the Ronchi. The park is rich in centuries-old trees, among them a cedar of Lebanon from which the villa takes its name.

The sources consulted do not give the architect’s name or any public opening schedule: the villa is private property and should be viewed only from public spaces, respecting the boundaries of the property. It is not to be confused with Villa Greppi in Albese con Cassano, which is a different villa.
