Since 2010 Villa Sucota has been the home of the Fondazione Antonio Ratti, founded in 1985: its park, with works by international artists made for the place, is part of the Chilometro della Conoscenza.
Villa Sucota stands in Como, on via per Cernobbio, on a spot that the map of the Duchy of Milan in the Gallery of Maps at the Vatican Palaces already marks as Zuccotta. It is a villa built in Neoclassical style.
The Fondazione Antonio Ratti was founded in 1985 by Antonio Ratti, a Knight of Labour, to turn his passion for art and textiles into a force in the world of culture. It keeps ancient fabrics collected by Ratti and a library of over 7,800 volumes on textiles, fashion, visual arts and crafts; since 1995 it has run the CSAV, a research laboratory that supports young artists from around the world. Since 2010 it has been based in the villa, whose rooms and park host works by artists linked to the Foundation.
The park offers an artistic route of permanent and temporary works by international artists, integrated into the landscape: the Foundation’s website lists five permanent works, by Gerry Bibby, Jimmie Durham, Matt Mullican, Richard Nonas and Liliana Moro. It is part of the Chilometro della Conoscenza, the green path along the lake that links Villa Olmo, Villa del Grumello and Villa Sucota.
The Foundation’s website lists the park as open to the public on Sundays from 9 am to 6 pm (information read in October 2026; the opening period and hours can change, so check fondazioneratti.org). Foundation contacts: info@fondazioneratti.org, +39 031 3384976.
