Monte Palanzone reaches 1,436 metres of elevation and is the second-highest peak of the Triangolo Lariano, after Monte San Primo (1,682 m). Its territory is shared by seven municipalities: Faggeto Lario, Nesso, Zelbio, Caglio, Sormano, Rezzago and Caslino d’Erba.
What to see
The summit holds the Cappella del Redentore, a pyramid-shaped chapel built in 1900 by the Circolo Alessandro Volta and restored in 1981 and 2002. From the top, the view stretches over Lake Como and, on clear days, the Po Valley. Just below the summit, on the Faggeto Lario side, stands Rifugio Riella.
Getting there
One ascent route starts from Pian del Tivano, passing through Piani di Nesso and Rifugio Riella.
