Rifugio la Canua stands at 1,520 metres on a natural terrace, in the municipality of Plesio, with a view spanning from the north to the south of the lake, over the lower Valtellina, Pian di Spagna, Lecco and Brianza. It is one of the stops along Stage 3 of the Via dei Monti Lariani, reached via a detour from the main route.
Management
The hut is run by volunteers of Operazione Mato Grosso, a volunteer movement active since 1967 in Peru, Brazil, Ecuador and Bolivia: proceeds from the hut go to the Casa degli ammalati (house for the sick) in Goiania, Brazil.
What to see and facilities
The hut has 16 beds, a kitchen, toilets and showers. It is connected to Rifugio Menaggio by a classic traverse trail via Breglia.
Getting there
Reached from Piazzucco in about an hour and a quarter, with 400 metres of ascent.

- Opening (2025 season): weekends from 20 April to the end of June, every day in July and August — check the official website before setting out, as the calendar can change year to year.
