Rifugio Venini stands at 1,576 metres in the Galbiga locality, in Val d’Intelvi, in the municipality of Tremezzina (a hamlet of Lenno). It is one of the stops along Stage 2 of the Via dei Monti Lariani.
History
The hut was created from the rebuilding of a former military barracks, part of the Cadorna Line defensive system set up during the First World War, converted into a hut by the Alpine troops.
What to see and facilities
The hut has 40 beds, a living room with fireplace seating about 60, and a broad panoramic outdoor terrace with another 100 seats. From the terrace the view spans Lakes Como and Lugano, the Rosa group, the mountains of Valchiavenna, Monte Disgrazia, Legnone and Legnoncino, the Grigne, the Corni di Canzo, San Primo, Sasso Gordona and Monte Generoso.
Getting there
Reached on foot from three different starting points: from San Fedele Intelvi in about 2 hours with 600 metres of ascent (the shortest way), from Lenno in about 3 hours 50 minutes with 1,340 metres of ascent, or from Bene Lario in about 3 hours with 1,200 metres of ascent.
