Location
Dosso del Liro is a small mountain comune at 650 metres above sea level, in a sunny position above Gravedona ed Uniti: together with Peglio and Livo, it forms part of the group of mid-slope villages of the western Alto Lario.
History
Its origins are ancient but cannot be dated precisely; in the Como dialect the village is called “Dòss”. It also borders Switzerland (Cama, Grono, Roveredo). Its administrative history was long intertwined with that of neighbouring Livo and Peglio: a Napoleonic decree of 1807 annexed Dosso del Liro to Livo, then in 1812 both were merged into the comune of Peglio; the Austrian Restoration restored the autonomy of all three comuni.
What to see
The Church of San Pietro, in Romanesque style, houses a fine altar and a notable cycle of frescoes.
What to do and excursions
From Dosso del Liro starts the walk to Arecc and Peglio, an easy route through meadows and terraced vineyards with open views over the Pian di Spagna and the mouths of the Mera and Adda rivers — details in the dedicated itinerary linked to this page. For those seeking more altitude, more demanding trails climb to the Rifugio Vincino, Monte Cardinello and Monte Piaghedo.
Getting there
The climb starts from the SS340 at Gravedona, along the provincial road that links the mid-slope villages of Livo, Peglio and Dosso del Liro.
