Monte Grona is a 1,736-metre rocky spur of the Prealpi Luganesi, in the municipality of Plesio, towering over Menaggio and the central lake.
What to see
From the summit the view stretches east over the central lake and the Grigne group, south over Bellagio and the Triangolo Lariano, and west over Lake Piano and Lake Lugano. On the saddle between Grona and Monte Bregagno, at 1,623 metres, stands the small chapel of Sant’Amate, a shelter point for hikers.
Getting there
The climb starts from Monti di Breglia via Rifugio Menaggio, with three possible routes: the normal route, the direct/very direct route, and the Centenario via ferrata, the latter reserved for hikers with via ferrata experience and equipment.
