At the exact point where Lake Como splits into its two branches, Punta Spartivento gives Bellagio a view like no other: a small beach and a park that make for the perfect afternoon out.
From this green headland, just a short walk from Bellagio’s historic centre, the view takes in the Como branch, the Lecco branch and the upper part of the lake towards Colico all at once, with the mountains providing the backdrop to one of the most photographed panoramas on the entire Lario. The small tree-lined lawn sloping down to the water is also home to a restaurant with an unbeatable view, while the little beach in front of it offers a refreshing swim right where the waters of the two branches seem to almost meet. The waters of this stretch have historically been among the cleanest on the lake: the area received the Blue Flag award in 2013.
Curiosities
Punta Spartivento also holds two stories that locals in Bellagio love to tell visitors: the wooden statue of the Dead Christ (Cristo deposto), now kept in the nearby Basilica di San Giacomo, is said to have been found on this very shore after going missing during transport to a different buyer. There is also the “Sass del Pan”, a rock that re-emerges from the water right in front of the point when the lake level drops, offering a small natural spectacle to those who visit during periods of low water.
Getting there
It can be reached on foot with a pleasant walk from the centre of Bellagio, along the gardens of Villa Melzi d’Eril.
