Riva del Cantone is a wild, largely undeveloped stretch of shore that gives Dorio an authentic view over the lake, with the village climbing the mountainside behind it.
A natural stretch of shore
It is one of the village’s two monitored bathing spots, together with the Rivetta, and it reflects the character of Dorio itself: a village in the Lecco side of the Alto Lario whose built-up area sits mostly on the mountain slopes rather than directly on the lake. The result is a natural, little-trodden landscape, with open views over the water and the surrounding mountains, popular with anyone looking for a swim away from the crowds of the busier tourist centres.
Getting there
It can be reached by car along the SS36, Dorio exit, or by train to the village station, on the Lecco-Colico-Sondrio line.
Practical information
- It is a free beach with no facilities of any kind: bring everything you need for the day.
- As in many bathing areas of the Alto Lario, past seasons have seen temporary exceedances of microbiological parameters, especially after heavy rain: it’s always worth checking the current bathing water status before swimming, particularly in the days following intense storms.
- Nearby, the village of Corenno Plinio is worth a detour, with its medieval castle perched over the lake, one of the most photographed on all of Lake Como.
