It’s one of the simplest and most genuine swimming spots in Dongo, a town of around three thousand residents on the western shore of the Upper Lake of Como.

Dongo owes its worldwide fame to the events of 27 April 1945, when partisans of the 52nd Garibaldi Brigade recognised and captured Mussolini, Claretta Petacci and the officials of the Italian Social Republic as they fled towards Switzerland. The town is also worth a visit away from the water: Palazzo Manzi, the former town hall where Mussolini was taken immediately after his capture, today houses the Museo della Fine della Guerra (Museum of the End of the War), a multimedia exhibition that recounts in detail the events that marked the final chapter of fascism in Italy.
