Camping Spiaggia is the first swimming spot you reach coming from Lecco along the old state road, in the municipality of Abbadia Lariana: a pebble beach attached to the campsite of the same name, open even to those who just want a swim and a coffee at the bar.
Framed by the profile of the Grigne mountains, the beach sits in a semi-urban but intimate setting, with the character of a small-town lido that makes it ideal for those looking for relaxation rather than nightlife. The lake bed drops off fairly quickly, so it’s worth keeping an eye on children, but overall the atmosphere stays calm and orderly throughout the day.
The campsite
The beach is attached to Camping Spiaggia, a family-run facility right on the shore. Besides the bar, it also offers the option to stay overnight in a tent, bungalow or room for those who want to extend their stop.
Getting there
By car, take the SS36, exit “Varenna, Mandello, Abbadia”, then follow the signs for the campsite just after the church. By train, Abbadia Lariana station is about a five-minute walk away, although not all trains stop there. Parking in the area is mostly paid.
Practical information
- The water in this stretch of the lake is monitored by the Portale Acque di Balneazione (Italy’s official bathing water portal) and is regularly classified as excellent.
- Continuing south along the lakefront promenade leads to Abbadia Lariana’s other beaches, such as Pradello, a little further south.
