At the centre of Lake Pusiano, visible from the shores of Pusiano and Eupilio, the Isola dei Cipressi takes its name from the roughly 130 cypress trees growing on it, some of them centuries old. It was once home to Viceroy of Italy Eugène de Beauharnais; today it is privately owned but open to visitors by boat.
History
The island was once home, among others, to the Viceroy of Italy Eugène de Beauharnais, Napoleon’s adopted son, who stayed at the nearby Palazzo Carpani-Beauharnais and used the island for court leisure. It is now owned by a family from Milan, the Gavazzi, who live there and maintain it.
What to see
The island is covered by about 130 cypress trees, some of them centuries old, which give it its name and make it recognisable from every point on the lake.
Getting there
The island is open to visitors and can be reached by boat departing from the docks at Bosisio Parini and Pusiano. It is one of the stops on the Anello del Lago di Pusiano itinerary.
