In the centre of Pusiano, right on the lake, Palazzo Carpani-Beauharnais was for centuries a prestigious residence: from the Middle Ages to the Napoleonic era, then a religious institute, and today the town hall and several public services, with a park open to everyone on the lakefront.
History
The palace dates back to the 15th century and was originally linked to the Carpani family. In the following centuries it remained a prestigious residence until the Napoleonic era — the source of its second name, tied to the Viceroy of Italy Eugène de Beauharnais, Napoleon’s adopted son, who stayed in the area and used the nearby Isola dei Cipressi for court leisure. It later became a Rosminian religious institute before taking on its current public functions.
What to see
Today the palace houses Pusiano’s town hall, the “A. Rosmini” school, the municipal library, a medical clinic and several local associations; its 19th-century wing also holds a youth hostel, “Il Castello del Drago”. Next to the building lies a large public park with pedestrian paths, resting areas and an inclusive playground — a good stop along the lake loop. The park is also the starting point of the Sentiero delle Cappelle dei Misteri del Rosario, which climbs to the Santuario della Madonna della Neve.
Getting there
The palace stands on via Antonio Rosmini, in the centre of Pusiano, on the via Mazzini lakefront. It is one of the stops on the Anello del Lago di Pusiano itinerary.
